Main theaters in Rotterdam

Oude / Nieuwe Luxor Theater

The Oude Luxor Theater in Rotterdam, originally opened as a luxurious cinema in 1917, became the largest cinema in the Netherlands, boasting an impressive capacity of 1,180 seats. The prominence of the Luxor attracted the interest of the German UFA, which eventually acquired the property in 1926. The building was completely demolished and in 1928 the Luxor Palast emerged, with 1600 seats, becoming a hub for German films and miraculously surviving the bombing of 1940.

Despite the ravages of war, the theater emerged unscathed and underwent significant renovations in 1947 (even changing its name again), 1972, and 2014. Today, with over 900 seats, the theater offers an eclectic program ranging from cabaret and concerts to musicals, dance, opera, theater, and family shows.

In 1995, the decision was made to erect a new Luxor theater in Kop van Zuid, which opened in 2001. The Nieuwe Luxor, with a capacity of 1,500 seats, hosts major productions in genres such as musicals, musical theater, cabaret, opera, dance, and more. Additionally, the theater is home to various cultural and festive events.

Theater Rotterdam

Rotterdam Theater was created in 2017 from the merger of Ro Theater, Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Productiehuis Rotterdam, and Wunderbaum.

The Ro Theater was founded in 1977.

The Rotterdamse Schouwburg, erected in 1988, represents an architectural landmark built in the former space left by the ravages of war, where in 1947 an emergency theater was initially erected.

The old building was demolished in 1984, giving way to the current Rotterdamse Schouwburg, one of the jewels of the Rotterdam Theater housing two halls with over 870 seats.

At the heart of this cultural institution, over 500 productions are presented annually spanning theater, music, opera, youth theater, dance, and a variety of festivals. This stage has witnessed performances by the most prominent theater, opera, and dance groups worldwide, making it an essential reference in the international artistic scene.

Theater Walhalla

In the 1980s, the Katendrecht neighborhood in Rotterdam, a former port area, faced new challenges after the ban on prostitution, and became an unattractive place. The municipality decided to transform the area.

Rachèl van Olm and Harry-Jan Bus, cultural entrepreneurs, saw opportunities in this neighborhood and decided to open Theater Walhalla in 2008, inspired by a famous nightclub from the past. This theater is located in the same place as the famous Dancing Walhalla before World War II.

Theater Walhalla, with its 72-seat capacity, opened a second hall called Kantine Walhalla in 2014, and in 2018 inaugurated the Workshop Walhalla in a former gymnasium. This workshop seeks to develop professional talents and foster experimentation and artistic growth.

Walhalla organizes over 300 performances annually and hosts various festivals. With around 40,000 visitors each year, the theater has become a key point in the cultural scene of Katendrecht and Rotterdam. The mission of Theater Walhalla is to entertain, surprise, inspire, and challenge through its theatrical programming, connecting creators and audiences. The vision involves managing a theater stage for artistic practice and a workshop for talent development, serving as an engine for renewal and innovation in theater circuits.

Theater Walhalla has become a key player in the cultural scene of Katendrecht and Rotterdam, offering a variety of performances and festivals, and promoting the development of artistic talents.

Prinses Theater

Het Prinses Theater in the Delfshaven neighborhood, with over a century of existence, holds the title of being the oldest in the city, opening in 1914 as Concordia Bioscope and evolving into a cinema and variety theater from 1917.

Although it closed in 1973, the building has been renovated and modernized without losing its rich history. Entrepreneurs Dennis Rens and Ernst Hoogenboom plan to utilize this unique space for various events, from corporate parties to dinner shows and discussions.

With an innovative initiative, Rens and Hoogenboom aim to preserve this cultural treasure for future generations, combining cultural programming with events, with an eye on the future for the next 100 years.

Prinses Theater, with 1,100 square meters, offers a completely renovated versatile space for meetings, fairs, conferences, and events from 20 to 850 people.

Jeugdtheater Hofplein

The Stichting Jeugdtheater Hofplein, also known as Stichting Hofplein Rotterdam, was established in 1985 in the original space of the Technikon in Rotterdam, formerly an underused theater/classroom since 1970. Under the name Hofpleintheater, the venue was revitalized in 1985 by theater creator Louis Lemaire, becoming “Jeugdtheater Hofplein”. Lemaire took the initiative to turn it into a space where children were not only spectators but also actors.

This theater, with a unique facade by Karel Appel and colorful seats, presents exclusively performed plays by children and young people each season, being a prominent name in Rotterdam.

It offers classes and workshops for young people, activities during vacations, and the possibility to host children’s parties.

Committed to youth, Jeugdtheater Hofplein organizes the National Youth Commemoration and rents out its spaces for corporate events.

Theater Zuidplein

The Theater Zuidplein was built in Rotterdam-Zuid in 1954.

In its early years, the theater, originally called Grote Schouwburg, was very popular in Rotterdam. It was a regional theater where prominent Dutch theater artists and internationally renowned musicians performed. In 1978, after a major renovation, the theater adopted its current name, “Theater Zuidplein”. Due to the city’s demographic changes and programming that did not change with them, the number of visitors sharply declined in the following years.

In the 1990s, thanks to the intervention of the municipality, Theater Zuidplein managed to change its situation. The programming began to consider more the new inhabitants of Rotterdam and, over time, Theater Zuidplein became a truly inclusive theater for everyone in Rotterdam and its surroundings.

Cinerama
Cinerama

Cinerama Rotterdam

Cinerama has been a landmark of Rotterdam’s cinematic scene since the summer of 1960. Initially located in the old Scala cinema on Westblaak, this cinema was completely transformed to screen the famous Cinerama movies. The theater featured a specially large screen, known as the Cinerama screen, which offered an impressive horizontal field of view of 146 degrees. Rotterdam residents considered it the most beautiful cinema in the city.

Over time, Cinerama ceased its Cinerama format screenings and adopted the 70mm format for movies. In 1980, Cinerama was divided into five smaller theaters to accommodate the changing needs of the audience.

A few years ago, the theater changed ownership and underwent another significant renovation. The original large Cinerama room was then divided into two smaller theaters, resulting in a total of seven theaters in the complex.

Today, Cinerama is known for screening a wide selection of movies, from artistic productions to blockbuster releases.

KINO

KINO, located on a street near Nieuwe Binnenweg, is a space where cinema, art, and community converge.

It offers a curated selection of films ranging from classics to modern and indie films.

In addition to screenings, KINO has a bar, restaurant, and versatile event spaces for conferences and festivals. Before each film, they provide an explanation of why it was selected.

The history of KINO Rotterdam dates back many years. In 1909, Jan Verheul built a place called “Ons Huis,” a space intended to foster creativity, enjoyment, and relaxation.

During the war, the building was used as a hospital but later regained its original purpose as an arts and cinema center. In 1949, it changed its name to ‘t Venster and became a destination for special films.

Meanwhile, in the 1950s, there was another place called Lantaren, where people went to enjoy theater and art. Both spaces later merged. In 1969, the Rotterdam Art Foundation took over the management of the venue on behalf of the Municipality.

Later, in 1986, the theater became an independent foundation, and in 2010, it moved to the south of Rotterdam. The old building was acquired by the people currently running KINO, and in 2016, it opened its doors as the vibrant cultural space it is today.

In this section, we mention some of the formalities you need to take care of with the authorities in Rotterdam if you decide to move to the Netherlands.

Moving from your country to the lively streets of Rotterdam is an exciting adventure. But amidst the excitement, there are some paperwork and important administrative tasks you must handle. Don’t worry; here we’ll explain the main bureaucratic matters you need to address for a smooth transition to Dutch society.

What bureaucratic formalities do I need to do when I arrive in Holland?

First of all, you’ll need a Dutch identification number called BSN (Burgerservicenummer). This 12-digit unique code is essential for almost everything in the Netherlands. From opening a bank account to getting health insurance or finding a job, the BSN is your first step for life in the Netherlands.

Once you arrive in Rotterdam, make sure to visit the local town hall. Registering with the municipality is mandatory for all new residents, no matter where they come from. At the town hall, you can get information about local services, events, and cultural integration programs.

Finding work in Rotterdam can be exciting and challenging at the same time. There are opportunities in sectors like shipping, technology, creative arts, and more. Embrace the Dutch work ethic of working hard and persevering, and your career will flourish.

Health is essential, so finding a doctor should be a priority. Look for a general practitioner and dentist that suit your needs.

As you settle into your new life, finding a place to call home is crucial. Depending on your budget, Rotterdam offers a range of options, from modern apartments with river views to rooms in historic houses in lively neighbourhoods. Housing might be tough to find, but with patience, you’ll find something suitable.

We’ll guide you on how to get your BSN, find doctors, enter the job market, and locate your ideal home in Rotterdam. We also have a section with basic phrases in Dutch and information about academies where you can study Dutch.

This walking path in Rotterdam covers a distance of about 10 kilometres and can be comfortably completed in under 3 and a half hours with breaks.

If you’re visiting Rotterdam alone or with a group of up to three people and need someone to take photos, you can send me an email. Photography is one of my hobbies, and sometimes I earn extra money from it. If I’m free that day, we can plan something.

I’ve included some tips along the route, places where you can take a break, and hidden corners that tourists might not know about.

A map of this route can be downloaded in this link.

Here are some of the places you’ll come across on this route. You can click on the links for more information:

Description of this walking route

We start our tour at the Central Station, leaving from the main entrance located at Stationplein.

At this square, you’ll see Delftse Poort on the left, the impressive Millennium Tower in front of you, and the grand Groothandelsgebouw Building on the right. We’ll continue along Kruisplein, through the pedestrian area, until we reach the next crossing. Here, you’ll spot the Calypso building, and to the right, there’s the Chinatown area.

Follow the left path to Schouwburgplein, leading to a spacious square. Here, you’ll find the Schouwburg Theater, the Pathe cinema, and the De Doelen concert and exhibition center. By the way, the four red lamps can be moved using controls at their base.

View from Euromast
View from Euromast

Cross the square diagonally, heading towards the Schouwburg Theater, then turn right onto Mauritsplaats. Cross the street and walk over a small bridge across the canal. Continue to the left along the pedestrian path until the next crossing. This is Westersingel.

Walk along this avenue for about 400 meters until you reach a Picasso artwork, then take the street on your right. This is your entrance to the Museumpark. To your left is the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum, and a bit further to the right is the Museum Chabot. In the same street, you’ll find the Huis Sonneveld. You’ll also spot the Depot Boijmans van Beuningen and the Nieuwe Instituut across the street.

Now, enter the park through Melkkeppad path. After a short walk, take a left turn, cross a small bridge, and continue along this path through a wooded area. You’ll pass by an entrance with two lions. In this corner, by the obelisk and next to the water, there’s an antique map of Rotterdam made with mosaics.

Keep going towards the small Greek chapel (usually closed, but there’s a Sunday mass at noon that’s worth a visit). Turn right towards two buildings. These are the Kunsthal Museum and the Natuurhistorisch Museum.

After leaving the museums behind, go up a slight hill to your right, leading to the main road. Cross the road to the left on the other side. You’re entering Het Park. Our route follows the first path on the right as you enter the park. If you have time, you can go straight ahead, and about 50 meters to the left, you’ll see an entrance with large gates. This is the entrance to Schoonoord Tuin; it’s also worth a stroll.

Sint Jacobshaven
Sint Jacobshaven

Let’s continue on the first path on the right into the park until we reach the Norwegian Church. Now, turn left, cross a bridge, and then take the second path on the right towards the cafés in the park. One of them is Dudok, known for their delicious pastries.

After leaving the houses behind, take the first path on the left, and a few meters ahead, there’s an old wooden bridge to your right. Cross it, climb the slope, and to your left, you’ll see metal stairs. Climb them to reach the entrance of the Euromast. In this area, you’ll find the Chinesse Boat, and a bit further, the entrance to the Maastunnel (if you have time, take a look inside).

After the Euromast, cross the street towards the water, and follow to the right along Parkhaven. When you reach the first bridge, turn to your left onto Westzeedijk.

Take the first path on the left onto Sint-Jobsweg, and a few meters ahead, turn right onto Sint-Jobskade. When you reach the quay, go left towards the river along Sint-Jobshavenkade. Continue alongside the river until you reach the Slavernijn Monument.

After the monument, turn right onto Loods Celebes, until you reach the hockey fields. Here, our path continues along the quay along Schiehaven. At the end of the quay, turn right onto Schiemond, then left onto Westkousdijk.

Afterwards, you’ll see a crosswalk to your right to cross to the other side of the avenue onto Westzeedijk. After crossing, go left, then take the first path on your right, leading you to Middenkous Street. Follow to the right, and then turn left, walking along the water. Soon, you’ll come across a bridge called Mouterbrug. Cross it and continue to your right until you reach the windmill. If you want, you can go inside the windmill. After that, continue through Achterhaven, then through Piet Heynsplein, until you see Piet Heynstraat to your right. Walk along this street.

A corner in Delfshaven
A corner in Delfshaven

At the end of this street, you’ll find another bridge, Piet Heynsbrug. You can also take a break at a bar in the area. De Pelgrim is a brewery that makes its own beer. Alternatively, a bit further ahead on the route, there’s a bar area where you can try Bitterballen garniture. Café de Oude Sluis, Café Soif, or Café aan Zet are good options.

Once you have crossed the bridge, turn left onto Aelbrechtskolk, until you reach the main road. Go right onto Schiedamseweg, and later, turn left to cross the old Lage Erfbrug Bridge.

After crossing the bridge, turn right onto the waterside promenade, and continue for about 600 meters until you reach Coolhaven metro station, passing under a bridge. Right in front of the metro station, you can see the Museum Rotterdam 40-45 NOW.

Enter the metro station and proceed through the underground passage until you reach the opposite side of the station, next to the Heenraadssingel canal.

Follow alongside Heenraadssingel for nearly a kilometer until you reach the end of this route. Upon reaching Beukelsdijk, turn to your right. Next, take the first left onto Suze Groeneweglaan. When you reach the end of this street, continue to your right along Essenburgsingel.

Upon reaching the end of this canal, you’ll notice on your left the entrance to a dog park (take a look if you have the time). If not, continue to your right until you reach the traffic light, then proceed along Weena Avenue until you return to the train station.

Don’t forget to check out the other routes I’ve prepared. Depending on how long you’ll be in the city, you might prefer one of the other routes.

Description of this route

Our second walking route in Rotterdam begins at the Central Station, departing from the main entrance located within Stationplein.

In this square, you’ll see the Delftse Poort on the left, the impressive Milemiun Tower ahead, and the grand Groothandelsgebouw on the right. We continue along Kruisplein, crossing the pedestrian area until we reach the next intersection. On the left stands the Calypso building, while on the right is the area of Chinatown. We walk straight ahead on Westersingel, alongside the canal in the pedestrian zone. After a short distance, we come across a bridge on the left that crosses the canal toward the Pauluskerk. We cross the bridge and follow Mauritsplaats Street until we arrive at a spacious square known as Schouwburgplein. Here, you’ll find the Schouwburg Theater, Pathe cinema, and De Doelen concert and exhibition center.

Access to Lijnbaan shopping area
Access to Lijnbaan shopping area

We cross the square diagonally towards one of the entrances of Lijnbaan, entering the street Korte Lijnbaan. This street marks the beginning of the shopping district.

At the end of the street, the imposing City Hall building comes into view, which will be our next destination. As we continue down this path, we’ll also find Stadhuisplein, an area full of bars that comes alive on weekends and where fans of the Feyenoord team gather to watch matches and celebrate victories.

Here, you’ll also find the Monument for All Fallen 1940-1945. We cross Coolsingel Avenue towards the City Hall, noting the historic Post Office to its right.

Our journey carries on along Doelwater Street, with the grand City Hall building to our right. A few steps away, we reach the entrance to the City Hall gardens – a peaceful corner worth visiting.

Continuing along Doelstraat, the street housing the police headquarters, we reach its end, where the De Delftsche Poort monument greets us. On the left, you can see the Luchtsingel (if the weather allows take a walk on it; a visit to Luchtpark Hofbogen and the former Hoftplein train station is an excellent option).

We leave behind De Delfsche Poort and turn right onto Haagseveer. We walk along the left side of the sidewalk, and before we reach the first row of houses, we take the path that goes around it on the left. From here, we can see an old wooden bridge, and we cross it.

The Pencil
The Pencil

After crossing the bridge, we continue to the right until we reach another small bridge, which we also cross. We pass by a Coffee Shop called “The Reef” and keep going on Oppert Street. This street leads us to a big church at the end of it, called Sint Laurenskerk.

In the peaceful park around the church, we find a famous statue of Erasmus. If Sint Laurenskerk is open, I invite you to go inside and explore. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, they offer guided tours to its tower (free with the Rotterdampas).

We turn left onto Grotekerkplein, heading towards Binnenrotte. Then we make a right turn and find a lively market that happens here on Tuesdays and Saturdays. We keep walking along Binnenrotte, heading towards the cube-shaped houses. On this path, we come across a sculpture called “Everybody is Death But Us,” the Library, and on the right, the Markthal, with the Blaak metro and train station right across from it. Don’t forget to take a look inside the Markthal.

Once we leave the Markthal, we see a building known as “The Pencil” in front of us. We head towards the stairs on the right side of it, which will take us to the indoor gallery of the Cube Houses. We go through the gallery and reach Oudehaven Harbor. This is a lively area with cafés where you can try typical beers and enjoy some Dutch tapas (bittergarnituur).

We continue along Oudehavenkade and later on Geldersekade, which leads us to the Witte Huis. On special occasions, you can go up to its terrace using an elevator for a small fee. After the Witte Huis, we take the stone path on the left called Koningsdam, just after passing the entrance of the shipyard.

If you have time walk along Noordereiland
If you have time, walk along Noordereiland

After that, we go to the right onto Oudehoofplein. A little bit further back, you can see the Spanish Bridge. We cross the street towards the river, under the Willemsbrug. When we get to the riverside, there’s an artwork called “Maasbeeld” that gets your attention. We go up some stairs on the left, which take us to the bridge. We cross it to the other side of the Maas River.

Not far before we get to the end of the bridge, we see more stairs on the right. We go down these stairs and turn left to keep going along Maaskade.

At the end of the dog park, there are stairs to the left. Climb them to see what’s left of the old “De Hef” bridge. Then we come back down and turn left to continue on Maaskade. The platform that you see over the river hold in the past the old Willemsbrug. We take the first left onto Van der Takstraat.

We cross the Koninginnebrug and walk to the other side of the street, leaving the park on your left. If you want to see “De Hef” from a different angle, you can go up the small hill in the park. Keep going on Rosestraat, and you’ll reach a square with the Entrepot building. From here, go to the marina through Factorij. This place is called Entrepothaven. Go to the right towards Vijf Werelddelen until you reach the end of this harbor. There, you’ll see a bridge called “Binnenhavenbrug,” and the Poortgebouw building.

Keep going to your left and cross the street towards the river. A little bit ahead, you’ll see the monument to Jewish children, Loods 24, on your right.

De Hef from the Erasmusbrug
De Hef from the Erasmusbrug

Keep walking on Stieltjesstraat and then on Wilhelminakade until you get to the Erasmus Bridge.

Cross the street with Erasmus Bridge on your right side, and keep walking by the river until you reach another bridge after you pass Hotel New York – it’s called the Rijnhavenbrug.

After you cross the Rijnhavenbrug, go to the right on Veerlaan. When you enter the small park, take the first path to the right – it’s called Linker Veerlan. From there, you’ll have a really good view of Wilhelminakade. Keep going by the river until you reach the ss Rotterdam.

Once you’re done exploring the area around the ss Rotterdam, keep going on Maashaven Noordzijde until you reach Hilleland. On your left, you’ll see the Rijnhaven metro station. Our route ends here, but if you’re still interested, you can keep walking to the Erasmus Bridge, where there’s another metro stop. Both metro lines, Rijnhaven and Wilhelminaplein, will take you directly to Rotterdam Central Station.

Don’t forget to take a look at the other routes I have prepared. Depending on the length of your stay, you might be more interested in doing one of the other routes.

This walking route in Rotterdam covers a distance of about 8 kilometers and can be comfortably completed with stops in less than three hours.

If you’re visiting Rotterdam alone or in a group of up to three people and need someone to take photos, you can send me an email. Photography is one of my hobbies, and sometimes I make extra money with it. If I don’t have work that day, we can arrange something.

I’ve included some tips along the route, places to take a break, and hidden spots that tourists don’t usually know about.

You can download a map of the route in this link.

You’ll pass by several interesting places on this route: Centraal StationMillennium TowerDelftse PoortGrotehandelsgebouw – Schouwburgplein (De Doelen, Pathe Cinema Complex) – CalypsoWestersingelSanta Claus – Witte de With Straat – Museumpark (Boijmans Museum, Chabot Museum, Huis Sonneveld, Depot, Nieuwe Instituut, Kunsthal, Natuur Historisch Museum) – Schoonoord ParkHet ParkEuromastParkhavenMaastunnelVeerhavenDe ZalmhavenDe Wereld Museum – Wilhelminakade from the north side of the river – Erasmus Bridge – Remastered – Spido – CooltowerLeuvehavenMaritime MuseumDe Verwoeste StadSchiedlandshuis – Koopgoot (shopping area) – World Trade CenterPost OfficeCity Hall – Weena Avenue.

Description of this walking route

Let’s start the route at the Central Station, exiting through the main entrance. In this square (Stationsplein), you can see the Delftse Poort building, the Millennium Tower, and the Groot Handelsgebouw.

Cross the street towards the Millennium Tower and go left along Weena Avenue, taking the first right turn you come across by Karel Doormanstraat. Continue along this street until you reach another square with four large red lamps. This is Schouwburgplein.

Here you can see the De Doelen building, the Schouwburg theater, and the Pathe Cinema Complex. By the way, the four lamps can be moved using controls at their base.

Schouwburgplein
Schouwburgplein

Go towards the Schouwburg theater and take Mauritsplaats Street to the right. After a short walk, cross the street using the bridge over the canal (watch out for trams and bicycles) and continue left along this walkway. This is Westersingel.

Keep walking along the center of the walkway with statues until you reach the crossing, and then continue to your left towards the Santa Claus sculpture. Follow Oude Binnenweg and take the first right alley through a tunnel on Mauritstraat Street. This is where rollerblade enthusiasts practice daily. Cross to the other side of Westblaak and go straight along Eendrachstraat. After a short distance, you’ll reach Witte de With Straat, where there are many cafes and shops to check out.

Continue to your right down Witte de With Straat and cross a small bridge. On your left, you can see an artwork by Picasso, and behind the Boijmans van Beuningen Museum. Keep going on this street, and on your right, you’ll see the Chabot Museum and a little further, on the same side, the Huis Sonneveld. You’ll reach the Depot Boijmans van Beuningen. Here, you can also find the Nieuwe Instituut.

Now we’ll enter the Museumpark through Melkkepadd Path. After a short walk, take a left turn over a bridge and follow the path through a grove, passing an entrance with two lions. In this corner, under the obelisk and next to the water, you can see an old mosaic map of Rotterdam.

Head towards the small Greek chapel (usually closed, but on Sundays, there’s a mass at 12, and it’s worth visiting inside) and turn right towards two buildings: the Kunsthal Museum and the Natuurhistorisch Museum.

Museumpark
Museumpark

After passing the two museums, go up a small incline towards the main road and cross to the left on the other side. Now you’re entering Het Park. Our route follows the first path on the right after entering the park, but if you have time, you can continue straight ahead for about 50 meters and find a gated entrance to Schoonoord Tuin, which is also worth exploring.

Let’s stick to the first right path into the park until you reach the Norwegian Church.

Now turn left, cross the bridge, and take the second right path towards the cafes in the park. One of them is Dudok, known for its delicious tarts.

After passing the cafes, take the first left path, and a bit further ahead, you’ll see an old wooden bridge to your right. Cross it, climb the slope, and on your right, you’ll find some metal stairs. Go up the stairs to reach the entrance of the Euromast.

Head towards the Chinese Boot, a Chinese complex with a buffet-style restaurant, and continue walking towards the river. Soon, you’ll see the entrance to the Maastunnel on your right. Take a look inside.

Keep walking on the bank of the river, heading towards the city, leaving the Maastunnel behind.

Walk along the river’s northern bank. Soon, you’ll pass an old port called Vershaven, where there are several cafes and vintage boats. Continue along the pier and walk further along the river. On the other side of the river is Wilhelminakade, where you can see Hotel New York, the World Port Center, the De Rotterdam skyscraper, the KPN building, and other skyscrapers.

Take a break in this area. Here, you’ll also find the De Zalmhaven building, the Spido boats, the Remastered center, and even a store with souvenirs.

Keep walking along the river, passing under the iconic Erasmus Bridge, and after passing it, you’ll come across a small slope to your left.

From here, you’ll have a view of Boompjes, a promenade along the river with tall buildings, the De Boeg monument, the De Hef and Willemsbrug bridges in the distance, and the island of Noordereiland.

De Rotterdam
De Rotterdam

As you return to the main avenue, cross towards the Leuvehaven metro stop. If you’re tired, you can take the metro here, and it will take you directly to the Central Station. If not, continue straight for about two kilometers. On your left, you can see the Cooltoren skyscraper, and on your right, Leuvehaven port and the Maritime Museum. In this port there is a small metallic bridge, cross it and turn to your left. On this square you’ll find the sculpture “Verwoeste Stad” by Zadkine.

Continue to the main entrance of the Maritime Museum, and cross the traffic lights on your right towards Coolsingel Avenue. First you will be passing by the tourist office, the Schiendladshuis, the shopping area, the World Trade Center, the Post Office, and finally, the City Hall. If you take the first street to your right after the City Hall, you can enter its gardens. It’s a cozy spot for taking photos.

We keep walking along Coolsingel until we reach Hoofplein, a square with a fountain. From here, go left along Weena Avenue, and about 400 meters to the right, you’ll find the Central Station again.

Don’t forget to check out the other routes I’ve prepared. Depending on how long you’ll be in the city, you might prefer one of the other routes.
