Football

There are three professional football teams in Rotterdam: Feyenoord, Sparta, and Excelsior.

Feyenoord Rotterdam: This club was established in 1912. They compete in the Eredivisie, which is the top professional football league in the Netherlands.

Their stadium, with a capacity of 51,000 spectators, is the second largest in the country and is located in the southern part of Rotterdam.

Feyenoord has won the Eredivisie championship 16 times (most recently in 2023), the Dutch Cup 13 times, and the UEFA Cup and UEFA Europa League twice.

Sparta Rotterdam: This club was founded in 1888 and is the oldest professional football club in the country. They play in the Eredivisie, the top professional football league in the Netherlands, and their stadium in the Spangen area can accommodate 11,000 spectators.

They have won the Eredivisie six times, the Eerste Divisie (the second-tier competition in the country) once, and the Dutch Cup three times.

Excelsior Rotterdam: This club was founded in 1902. They play in the Eredivisie, the top professional football league in the Netherlands, and their stadium in the Kralingen area can accommodate 4,500 spectators.

They have won the Eerste Divisie (the second-tier national competition) three times.

Basketball

Feyenoord Basketball: This professional basketball club plays in the BNXT League, which includes teams from Belgium and the Netherlands. The club was established in 1954 and has been the basketball section of the Feyenoord football team since 2018.

Baseball

There are four baseball teams in Rotterdam. You can watch matches in various categories, from youth to senior level. Usually, entry is free. All clubs have male and female baseball and softball teams.

Neptunus: This club has won many national cups, along with 15 European Cups and 7 UEFA Super Cups.

The Neptunus Stadium was the main venue for the 2005 Baseball World Cup held in the Netherlands. The World Port Tournament is held at the same stadium every two years.

Hockey

HC Rotterdam: This field hockey club was founded in 1925 and is the third-largest club in the Netherlands.

The men’s first team competes in the Hoofdklasse (the top category of the Dutch hockey league), and the women’s first team competes in the Promotieklasse (the second category of the Dutch hockey league).

The men’s team has won the league once.

Their stadium is in the northern part of Rotterdam, in the Hillegersberg district.

Rugby

Rotterdam Pitbulls: The Rotterdam Pitbulls club competes in the Dutch Rugby League Competition (NRLB) as well as internationally. They have won the national competition once.

Their stadium is in the Capelle aan de Ijssel area.
