Children’s Playgrounds in Rotterdam

Speeltuinen are typical neighborhood playgrounds with swings, trampolines, slides, and other play equipment. Some of them offer additional activities organized by volunteer groups, such as costume parties, children’s clothing markets, board games, vegetable planting, and sports competitions. Admission fees may apply to some playgrounds.

Visiting Farms with Children in Rotterdam

Kinderboerderij, which translates to “children’s farms,” are places where various animals coexist, including rabbits, goats, lambs, chickens, pigs, ponies, and others. Children can feed the animals, help with cleaning tasks, and participate in other educational activities. Some farms also teach children how to make farm products such as honey, cheese, crepes, jam, or juice.

Theme Parks and Other Attractions for families in Rotterdam

Plaswijckpark. A favorite place for kids aged 3 to 11 throughout the year.

In summer, they offer a pool area, pedal car track, animals, trampolines, playground, theater, boat rides, and more.

During winter, their large indoor play area is perfect for a rainy day. Sit in the café, and your child will be occupied for hours.

Plaswijckpark. Ringdijk 20. Take tram number 25 and get off at Meidoornweide.

Blijdorp Zoo. With its huge aquarium, over 180 animal species, a tropical butterfly pavilion, multiple play areas, and restaurants, it’s a fantastic zoo spanning 26 hectares. More than 1.5 million people visit each year.

Klimbos. A fun family experience in Kralingse Bos Park. Walk among the trees on elevated courses at different heights. There are various levels with zip lines, swings, and climbing nets. They provide English training and ensure you’re ready for the courses. For kids at least 1.10 meters tall.

Klimbos Fun Forest Rotterdam. Langepad 71. Take tram number 7 and get off at Woudestein. It’s a 15-minute walk from there.

Outdoor Valley. They offer outdoor sports in Hoge Bergse Bos, which has many lakes. Activities include canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and mountain biking. You can also try climbing, archery, bridge building, and paintball. They even organize summer camps and parties.

Pannenkoekenboot. Enjoy a boat trip on the Meuse River with a buffet of delicious pancakes in different flavors. It’s a popular activity among local families.

Mini golf. There’s an 18-hole mini-golf course near the Euromast. It’s a great addition to a visit to the Euromast, a boat ride on the Pannenkoekenboot, or the Laser Game.

Kids Marina. Young children can captain electric boats at the dock next to the Maritime Museum.

Splashtours. It’s an amphibious bus that takes you on a one-hour tour through the streets of Rotterdam and then continues as a boat on the Meuse River.

What can you do with kids in Rotterdam on a rainy day?

Dutch Pinball Museum. Explore a museum filled with classic pinball machines. They have over 100 machines, and most of them are playable. Some machines date back to the 1960s. The museum is open on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays only.

Bounce Valley. It’s an indoor pavilion filled with bouncy air mats and different courses. It’s great for kids to have fun and burn off energy on a rainy day.

Monkeytown. An indoor playground that covers over 2,000 square meters. It has tunnels, slides, Legos, a ball pit, trampolines, and climbing walls. Suitable for children up to ten years old.

Laser tag. A dark area of 300 square meters where you can play laser tag on a boat docked near the Euromast. Kids love it, and parents do too.

Swimming pools. There are several indoor swimming pools in the city. On Sundays, they organize a family day where you can swim with your kids and babies. We recommend Oostervant, which also has a bowling alley, and Zevenkampse Ring. If you feel like taking a dip during the summer months, visit the outdoor swimming pool Van Manen, or the baby pool in Kralingen.

Bungelland. Another indoor playground near a shopping center called Alexandrium. They have a separate area for younger kids.

Remastered. It’s an interactive audiovisual space with surreal animations and old artworks by Dutch painters. It’s a unique experience that we recommend you visit.

Library. The central library has a play and reading area on the first floor. They often organize exhibitions and theatrical performances.

Museums. Several museums in the city offer interesting activities for kids.

Miniworld Rotterdam. It’s the largest covered miniature world in the Netherlands.

It showcases parts of Rotterdam, the harbor, the coast, and the Dutch countryside. It also has a section dedicated to pre-war Rotterdam and another section dedicated to Great Britain.

In Miniworld Rotterdam, a day lasts 24 minutes, and then night falls, and the little world lights up with thousands of tiny lights.

Villa Zebra. It’s a museum with interactive exhibitions, installations, and creative art workshops for children aged 2 to 12. They have a café with lots of board games, and their shop has unique artistic gifts.

Natuurmuseum. It’s focused on educating about animal life through various activities. Located at Westzeedijk 345. Take the Eendrachtsplein Metro.

Maritime Museum. Upstairs, there’s a play area for kids with a pirate ship, cranes, containers, a ship’s control room, and other things to do. It’s located at Leuvehaven 1. Beurs Metro station.

Feyenoord Museum. They offer guided tours of the city’s most popular team’s stadium, where you can visit the bench, locker rooms, and trophy room. Make sure to book in advance. The museum is at Van Zandvlietplein 1. You can take tram 23 or 25 to get there.

Kijk Kubus Museum. It lets you explore one of the cube houses and experience life in this unique structure.
