Dakpark

Rooftop Park

Dakpark, in addition to being built at a height of 9 meters, is over one kilometer long and about eighty meters wide. This makes it one of the largest rooftop parks in Europe. The Dakpark in Rotterdam is built on the roof of a commercial boulevard.

Designed by the agency Buro Sant & Co, Dakpark was officially opened in 2013, after more than thirteen years of development.

The park features grassy areas, trees, shrubs, and designated barbecue spots. There are also water stairs measuring 70 meters in length and 7 meters in width, through which 200,000 liters of water flow every hour.

There are three zones in the park. In the central area, there is a Mediterranean garden with a greenhouse that houses a restaurant. In the section of the park next to Marconiplein, there is a playground with equipment for children. And in the Hudsonplein area, a community garden has been set up for local residents, with a vegetable garden, farm animals, and fruit hedges.

The Dakpark Foundation works with a group of volunteers and local residents on the maintenance of the park and the management of the community garden, also contributing to the neighborhood’s social engagement.

The park is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. during the summer, and from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in the winter.
