Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam
Natural History At Museumpark
The Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam is located in the Museumpark, within the historic Villa Dijkzigt, a mansion built in 1852.
In 1995, the building was expanded with a modern glass pavilion that contrasts with the original architecture.
What began as a small collection in the attic of a local school grew — with the support of the Rotterdam municipality — into a museum dedicated to natural history.

A Journey Through Nature and Its Species
The museum features exhibitions, activities, and information about animal life and the natural environment. Its collections include taxidermied birds and mammals, butterflies, insects, skeletons, shells, and fossils.
Among the highlights are a 15-meter-long sperm whale skeleton and the complete skeleton of an elephant.
The museum also hosts exhibitions on urban nature and the natural history of the Netherlands.
It has a shop where visitors can buy books, fossils, seeds, and other nature-related items. In addition, it organizes lectures, weddings, and children’s birthday parties with interactive activities.
The museum receives over 40,000 visitors each year, and since 2006 it has been officially known as the Natural History Museum of Rotterdam.
The Natuurhistorisch Museum Rotterdam is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
