Mariniersmuseum
Rotterdam Naval Pride
The Mariniersmuseum is situated in the Oudehaven of Rotterdam, right next to Witte Huis.
The museum is located at the very place where the Royal Navy repelled numerous German sieges at the beginning of World War II in 1940, defending the northern bank of the river Maas.
This corps was founded in the 17th century with the purpose of safeguarding the merchant fleet. The population of Rotterdam has always been closely involved with the Marine Corps, whose headquarters (Van Ghent Kazerne) are in this city. In this museum, you will get acquainted with the Marine Corps, an elite unit that has existed since 1665.

Four centuries of history and international missions
In addition to four centuries of martial history, the Mariniersmuseum features exhibitions on more recent events such as those in the Cambodian War, the war in Bosnia, and missions against piracy in Somalia.
The library also contains a wealth of information about the history of wartime days and the role of the Marine Corps on the River Maas and its ancient bridges.
The Marine Corps Museum offers a wide array of personal items, paintings, posters, films, models, and even a pirate ship. They also organize various activities for children and exhibit a Harley Davidson motorcycle used by the Dutch Antilles Marine Patrol.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
