Traveling To The Netherlands By Ferry

You can also reach Rotterdam by ferry from the UK. Here are the available options.

Currently, there are three main ferry routes connecting the UK with different port cities in the Netherlands. Here’s a breakdown of each one:

P&O Ferries: Kingston Upon Hull – Rotterdam (Europoort)
Travel time: approximately 11 hours
Frequency: daily departures
Arrival terminal: Europoort ferry terminal, about 35 km from central Rotterdam
Best for: travelers coming from the north of England

Stena Line: Harwich – Hoek van Holland (Rotterdam)
Travel time: just under 7 hours
Connections: from Hoek van Holland, you can take a direct train or metro to Rotterdam in about 30 minutes
Best for: one of the fastest and most convenient routes

DFDS Seaways: Newcastle – Amsterdam (Ijmuiden)
Travel time: around 17 hours
Note: While this route doesn’t arrive directly in Rotterdam, it’s a good option if you plan to explore multiple Dutch cities

The Europoort terminal is located 35 kilometers from central Rotterdam. The drive takes about 40 minutes via the A15 motorway.

Accessing Europoort

From Rotterdam, follow the signs for “Europoort” on the city’s ring road. Then, take the N15 and follow signs for “England.” The route is clearly marked and easy to follow by car.

There is no direct public transport to or from Europoort. However, you can book a bus transfer between Europoort and central Rotterdam. Bus departure from Europoort to Rotterdam:

Monday to Friday: 08:30
Saturday and Sunday: 09:45

Drop-off and pick-up point in Rotterdam: Conradstraat Bus Station, next to Rotterdam Central Station

Return pick-up time from Rotterdam: 18:00

From Hoek van Holland to Rotterdam

If you choose to travel with Stena Line, you’ll arrive at the Hoek van Holland port, which is very well connected to public transport.

From there, you can take:

The Metro Line B, which goes straight to the city center
Regional trains, with frequent service throughout the day
Total travel time: around 30 minutes
